Prof. Xuemin Shi
Honorary President of Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine

Prof. Shi is known worldwide as a professor of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese medicine. He is the sole TCM academician of the Chinese Academy of Science and Technology. Graduating from Tianjin University of TCM in 1962, Dr. Shi joined the advanced training acupuncture course held by the National Health Ministry Of China in 1965; He is a tutor of PHD students. He has been the president of the 1st teaching hospital of Tianjin University of TCM for over 20 years, and the vice president of Tianjin University of TCM for over 10 years. Since 1972, he has lectured and practiced acupuncture in Germany, United States, Austria, France, England, Japan, Korea, and a number of Africa countries. Prof. Shi founded a unique acupuncture therapy named "Xing Nao Kai Qiao (to activate the brain and open the orifice)", it is considered as the most effective TCM method to treat stroke. After over 20 years of clinical application nation wide, the indications of this method have been expended to aortic arch syndrome / Takayasu's aortitis (Pulseless disease), painful disorders, senile dementia, depression, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic paraplegia. Prof. Shi also initiated the concept of "acupuncture manipulation quantization", which has had great influence in the standardization of acupuncture manipulations. This concept was considered a historic contribution to the modern development of acupuncture. Under his leadership, the Acupuncture Department of the 1st teaching hospital of Tianjin University of TCM, has become the largest acupuncture practice and research centre in the world. With over 500 daily visits in the outpatient section and 600 beds in the inpatient section, the Tianjin University of TCM serves patients from China and overseas. Because of his exquisite skills and profound knowledge, he is known as the "No. 1 acupuncture expert" in China.

Dr. Shi is happy to share his expertise with everyone in this field; he will be visiting CITCM to pass on his knowledge to the new generations of acupuncture field in the west.
