CITCM is accredited and licensed under the Private Vocational Schools Act of Alberta, and the Acupuncture Committee of Alberta Health and Wellness. CITCM’s acupuncture and doctor of TCM curriculum is recognized by Shandong University of TCM, with additional 1 year internship at SUTCM, graduates will be granted a Bachelor Degree of TCM from SUTCM.  CITCM WE Integrated Massage Program is accredited by Nature Health Practitioners of Canada; graduates will be registered as massage therapists upon graduation.(pending), CITCM graduates are qualified for Massage Licenses by the City of Calgary.

How long per day will I have to study?

This depends a lot on the student.  On average most students spend approximately 4 hours in class and about 1 to 2 hours studying and completing assignments after regular class time.  This totals 5 to 6 hours per day of class and study time.

Can I work while going to school?

Yes.  Currently studies are 8:00 am until 12 noon in classes allowing students to obtain employment during the school year to help with their finances.

Is there any financial assistance for my study at CITCM?

Yes, CITCM’s acupuncture program is approved for both federal and provincial student loans.

When I complete the program can I run my own clinic?

That depends on the individual. Certainly that is the route that many graduates have taken and the school will help train you for that through the business courses that are part of the curriculum.  Many graduates also find positions in other acupuncture and TCM clinics as well as with chiropractors and with other medical professionals.

How much should I expect to earn when I start practicing?

That really depends on the individual.  Currently, a established acupuncturist can expect to earn 60,000 to 120,000 a year. There are many graduates that are earning between $40,000 and $60,000 within the first several years of graduation.  Much of this depends on what avenue of employment the graduate chooses to follow.

Is there a residence at the school?

Currently there are no formal residences at the school although there are numerous areas for accommodation within the area and there are many students who live within a quick walk or short commute to school. Assistance from the school in finding accommodation is available.

When I graduate can I practice anywhere in Canada?

Currently you will have to be licensed for acupuncture practice in Alberta, B.C. and Qubec.  Other provinces are not regulated. Because of the mutual recognition agreement between the above mentioned provinces, if you are registered in Alberta, you can transfer your license to B. C. or Quebec, which means, if you are licensed in any of the above provinces, you will be able to practice anywhere in Canada. So far, the only province in Canada that licenses TCM doctors is B.C.  Graduates from CITCM are encouraged to take the B.C. doctor of TCM licensing exam.

Will you help with foreign student applications?

We will provide all the required documentation to apply for a student visa once the applicant has been accepted into the program.
