University Level Faculty
Our chief instructors are Ph. D degree holders in acupuncture and TCM with extensive teaching, clinical and research experiences, and are joined with a diversity of health care practitioners such as physicians, naturopath, dentists, chiropractors and physiotherapists, nutritionist who love teaching and have a holistic and integrated approach towards their practice.

University Level Curriculum
The curriculum of the Acupuncture Diploma Program offered by CITCM meets or exceeds the regulation requirements of Alberta, British Columbia and the United States (NCCAOM). CITCM’s Dr. of TCM Program meets or exceeds the regulation requirements for British Columbia and the United States (NCCAOM)(it is not yet regulated in any other province in Canada).The curriculum is based on five years of TCM University training in China with sufficient training hours: 2900 hours for the Acupuncture Diploma program and 4188 hours for the Dr. of TCM Diploma program. CITCM also provides Continuing Education Seminars that allow students to learn from experts in special fields in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture.

Well Developed E-Study System
This interactive multimedia system includes class powerpoint, class notes, question banks, case studies, video clips, and discussion forums, and many other recourses to help students in their study. It provides a unique route for students to communicate with instructors and access class information. Website: http://www.uacupuncture.com.
Excellent Clinic Training Facilities
Student interns practice on-site at the BodyMind Synergy Health Centre, the largest acupuncture clinic within Calgary, where they will be studying under TCM specialists and experienced supervisors. In the final term of the fourth year interns also have the option to pursue a study trip to China. They will be studying under professors, and experts in TCM teaching hospitals in China.
Diplomas and Acupuncture Licensing Preparation
When students graduate from our four-year Acupuncture Diploma program, they will receive the following diploma or certificates: Acupuncture Diploma, and Chinese Tui Na Massage certificate. Graduates of our Dr. of TCM Program will receive the same certificates as the Acupuncture Program but will also receive a Dr. of TCM certificate.
Graduates from the 5 year Bachelor Program will receive the same diplomas and certificates as the four year Dr. of TCM program from CITCM, and at the same time they will receive graduation certificate as well as a Bachelor’s Degree certificate from Shan Dong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese State Education Ministry.
After completion of the fourth year, students will be eligible to take the examination to become a registered acupuncturist in Alberta. We provide indepth review and mock exams to prepare students to take the provincial exam. Those who pass the examination will receive their acupuncturist license. We are very proud that 100% of CITCM 2009 Graduates have achieved a pass rate for written portion of the Provincial Acupuncture Registration exam.
Small Class Size
Small class sizes allow for more focus of hands on training as well as one on one interaction with teachers. Throughout the program, the goal is to empower students to establish a life long learning style and optimum professional competency. Extensive Chinese herbal training gives students confidence and the ability to prescribe the most effective individualized herbal prescriptions for each patient.
Career Assistance
Business Management, communication and counselling are part of our curriculum to help
prepare students in their future practice. Web marketing, search engine optimization is also provided to promote interns’ and graduates’ success. Business planning consultation and tutoring are always available for our new graduates.
Facilities
The Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine is located in the Beacon Heights professional building, 136 17th Ave NE Calgary Alberta. It contains a total of 2600 square feet of classroom space, and another 2700 square feet of clinic space. CITCM has a library, teaching clinic, and herbal pharmacy on site. CITCM is also affiliated with the Tianjin University of TCM, the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Shandong University of China, and the Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China as teaching hospitals. CITCM is a five-minute walk from Centre St. and 16th Ave. NE and is a 25 minute walk from downtown Calgary. It is close to several major bus routes and parking is available off site. |
